It was a one-of-a-kind experience that left lasting memories for all who embarked on this grand adventure. Others operate vessels that are as luxurious as any upscale resort found on land. A few small luxury players such as Regent Seven Seas Cruises have ships with lavish suites that'll cost you as much as $11,000 a day. While the introduction of two new Big Red Boats in 1998 seemed promising, the company's financial troubles ultimately led to the sale of all their ships to other companies. The Oceanic, the last remaining vessel, sailed until 2012 before meeting it’s fate at the scrapyard.

The company was sold again in 2006 to Majestic America Line, but in 2008 the ship's exemption from the Safety at Sea Act expired, and the vessel was no longer permitted to operate. Both Delta Queen Steamboat Company and Majestic America Line went out of business the same year. Family-owned and operated, the Tahiti-based Degage family founded the company Nomade Yachting in 2001 with private yachts that were chartered to individuals. In 2003, sister mega-yachts Tu Moana and Ti'a Moana were delivered, and Bora Bora Cruises began operations. Ti'a Moana was sold off in 2010, and in 2011 Bora Bora Cruises ceased operations. The three and four day cruises sailed from Port Canaveral and offered several different itineraries.

Starting in 1985, Premier partnered with Walt Disney World, providing seven-night land and sea vacations on The Big Red Boat.

By this time, there were several other cruise lines who were building brand new cruise ships. "Ed" Merhige (Florida Export Warehouse/International Cruise Shops) and Bruce Nierenberg (NCL), two cruise veterans and later bought by Dial Corporation (of Dial soap fame), which then also owned the Greyhound Bus Company. The ships typically operated three- and four-day Bahamas trips out of Port Canaveral, Florida. The company earned over $20 million annually on a gross revenue of $100 million during the 1980s.

In November 2012, CDF replaced Bleu de France with Horizon, which was transferred from Pullmantur Cruises. In 2016, Royal Caribbean sold a controlling stake of Pullmantur, under which CDF was by then operating, to a Spanish company, and CDF ceased operations in early 2017. Disney pulled all of their beloved characters from Premier Cruise Line ships in 1993 as they were in the negotiation process with Carnival and Royal Caribbean to carry their brand.
The successful niche that Premier served was the family cruise line, especially attractive to grandparents sailing with their children and grandchildren. Narrowing the scope to the past 50 years, the figures become even more astonishing. During this time, only four cruise ships have been declared lost while on their designated cruises. The rarity of such occurrences highlights the advanced safety measures and protocols implemented by the cruise industry to prevent the loss of these massive vessels.
Since the line's inception, Disney ships can be identified in port by their elongated dark blue hulls, matching red funnels and elaborate yellow insignia. Disney World isn't exempt from mistakes, and as hard as they try, sometimes an experience...
